Let \(X\) be a smooth projective variety over an algebraically closed field of characteritic \(p>0\). A vector bundle \(\mathcal E\) on \(X\) is called Frobenius descent if \(\mathcal E=F^*(V)\) where \(F:X\to X\) is the absolute Frobenius. \textit{K. Joshi} [Some remarks on vector bundles, preprint (2007)] considered (some remarks on vector bundles) the following question: Let \(\mathcal X \to \mathrm{Spec}(\mathbb Z)\) and \(\mathcal E\) a vector bundle on it, if the reductions \(\mathcal E_p\) are Frobenius descent for infinitely many primes \(p\in \mathbb Z\), is the \(\mathcal E_{\eta}\) semi-stable on the generic fiber \(\mathcal X_{\eta}:=X\) ? Joshi himself gives a positive answer for rank two bundles \(\mathcal E\) under the assumption that \(Pic(X)=\mathbb Z\). In this interesting paper, the authors show examples, which give conterexamples to the question in the case that \(\mathrm{Pic}(X)\neq\mathbb Z\).
