Bifurcations of mixed-mode oscillations in a stellate cell model (Q843008)

The paper describes a thorough study of bifurcation diagrams of dynamical systems modeling complex oscillation patterns arising in mammalian neurons, and particularly in stellate cells of the cortical region. The objective is to understand the biophysical mechanism generating oscillation patterns in cells. Using a 7-dimensional ordinary differential equation (ODE) model, the authors carry out a comprehensive bifurcation analysis using a dedicated software package. They also show experimentally that most of the oscillatory phenomena are still present when simplifying the model to a 3-dimensional ODE.
