In this contribution the goal is to discuss the different geometrical features of generalized Kähler geometry. The author starts by reviewing the standard facts about Kähler geometry, in particular the local description of the geometry and ways to gluing together local data into a global object. To work out the generalized Kähler situation, the author introduces the notion of generalized Kähler potential, which is valid in the neighborhood of a regular point. The tools of Poisson geometry, explicitly the presence of a few Poisson structures is crucial for the local analysis of the geometry. There are several open questions, for instance an extension to irregular points, an interpretation of the choice of polarization, while discussing global issues.
