This paper is concerned with a two-time level alternating direction implicit (ADI) method for approximation of solutions of some hyperbolic problems in a planar rectangle. The author uses the finite volume method, the biquadratic finite element space as the solution space and the Crank-Nicholson approach for the time stepping. The main result of the paper presents optimal estimates of the second-order accuracy in the \(H^1\) norm. Some numerical computations are also performed to illustrate the achievements of the method.
