The authors study the effect of a power \(p\) of the gradient as an absorption term in the heat equation with a Hardy potential. They find that \(p* = \frac{N}{N+1}\) is the threshold to regularize the blow-up in the problem studied in a celebrated paper by \textit{P. Baras} and \textit{J. A. Goldstein} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 284, 121--139 (1984; Zbl 0556.35063)]. moreover they analyze the regularizing effect of the gradient term showing the existence of a solution without the integrability restiction used by Baras and Goldstein. Lastly they consider the Cauchy problem.
