An element \(a\) of a Banach algebra \(A\) is said to have a g-Drazin inverse if there exists \(x\in A\) such that \(xa=ax, x=ax^2\) and \(a=a^2x\) is quasinilpotent. If such element \(x\) exists, then it is unique and is denoted by \(a^D\). The notion of g-Drazin inverse in the framework of Banach algebras was studied by \textit{J. J. Koliha} [Glasg. Math. J. 38, No.~3, 367--381 (1996; Zbl 0897.47002)]. Utilizing a representation of the resolvent of a \(2 \times 2\) matrix with entries in \(A\), the authors investigate the existence of the g-Drazin inverse of the sum \(a + b\) and give explicit expression for \((a + b)^D\) under some conditions. They also present a representation for the Drazin inverse of a \(2 \times 2\) complex block matrix in terms of the individual blocks under certain conditions.
