    Let \(E\) be a Banach lattice. For \(x\leq y\) in \(E\), set \([x,y]:=\{ z\in E: x\leq z\leq y\}\); \(B_E :=\{ z\in E: | | z| | \leq 1\}\); for \(x\in E\), \(A\subset E\), \(\text{dist}(x,A)\) denotes the distance between \(x\) and \(A\), while \({\mathcal A}_n^T\) denotes the Cesàro means of an operator \(T\) on \(E\). An operator \(T\) on \(E\) is called mean ergodic if the sequence \(\{ {\mathcal A}_n^T x\}_n\) is norm convergent for all \(x\in E\), and \(T\) is called power bounded if \(\sup_{n\geq 0}| | T^n | | <\infty\). The main result of the paper goes as follows. Let \(E\) be a \(\sigma\)-Dedekind complete Banach lattice. Then the following conditions are equivalent: (a)\(E\) is a KB-space; (b) any positive bounded operator \(T\) on \(E\), which satisfies \(\lim_{n\rightarrow\infty} \text{dist} ({\mathcal A}_n^T x,[-g,g]+\eta B_E )=0\) for all \(x\in B_E\) for some \(g\in E_+\) and \(0\leq \eta <1\), is mean ergodic; (c) any positive operator \(T\) on \(E\), which satisfies \(\lim_{n\rightarrow\infty} \text{dist}(T^n x,[-g,g]+\eta B_E )=0\) for all \(x\in B_E\) for some \(g\in E_+\) and \(0\leq \eta <1\), is mean ergodic.
