The author shows: Theorem 1.1. Let \(\Gamma \) be the fundamental group of a 3-dimensional Sol manifold. Then there exists a finite index subgroup \(G\) generated by a finite set \(S\) so that \(G\) has rational growth with respect to \(S\) (in other words, \(\Gamma \) is virtually rational). This is done by enumerating \(G\) by a regular language which is not a language in the generating set.
