The author considers the elliptic operator of divergence form \[ Au(x):= \sum_{|\alpha|\leq m,|\beta|\leq m} D^\alpha(a_{\alpha\beta}(x) D^\beta u(x)) \] defined in a domain \(\Omega\) of \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N\geq 2\) with the Dirichlet boundary condition. Here \(D= (D_1,\dots, D_N)\), \(D_j= -i\partial_j\) \((j= 1,\dots, N)\). In his previous works the author developes the \(L^p\) theory including the construction of \(L^p\) resolvents, assuming that the boundary of \(\Omega\) is of class \(C^{m+1}\). The aim of this paper is to show that the \(L^p\) theory also holds when \(\Omega\) is a \(C^1\) domain. To this end, the author uses the inequalities of Hardy type for the Sobolev spaces.
