Let \(K\subset\mathbb{R}^d\) be a smooth convex body and \(K_n\) the convex hull of n independent uniform random points in \(K\). The author establishes central limit theorems for the volume \(V(K_n)\) and the number \(f_i(K_n)\) of \(i\)-dimensional faces of \(K_n\), \(i\in \{0,\dots, d-1\}\), as \(n\to\infty\). For the proof, he relates the results to central limit theorems for Poisson polytopes \(\Pi_n\), as they were recently obtained by \textit{M. Reitzner} [Probab. Theory Relat. Fields 133, No. 4, 483--507 (2005; Zbl 1081.60008)]. The Poisson polytope \(\Pi_n\) arises as the convex hull of the points of a stationary Poisson process with intensity \(n\) inside \(K\). The author also explains how the essential ingredients of the proof can be applied to other types of convex bodies \(K\), e.g. to polytopes.
