A chamber is a polysimplex which is a product \(C=\Delta_n \times \Delta_1\) of an \(n\)-simplex \(\Delta_n\) and a 1-simplex \(\Delta_1\). To this datum, the authors attach a homological coefficient system. Suppose that the group \(G\) acts properly on the enlarged building \(\beta^1G\) which is a polysimplicial complex. If \(x\in \Delta_n\), denote by \(G(x)\) the stabilizer of \(x\) in \(G\) and if \(G(x) \hookrightarrow G(y)\), we have the inclusion \(y \to x\), and associate to it the induction map \(\text{Ind}_{G(x)}^{G(y)}\) between the representation rings \(R(G(x)) \to R(G(y))\). The chamber homology is the homology of \(\Delta_n\) with coefficient system. Let \(F\) be a nonarchimedean local field and let \(\text{GL}(N) = \text{GL}(N,F)\). In the paper under review the authors prove (Theorem 2 and \S\S4--6) the existence of a parahoric type for \(\text{GL}(N)\). The representative cycles in all the homology classes of the chamber homology of \(\text{GL}(3)\) are constructed (Theorem 3, \S\S7--9).
