Let \(k\) be a perfect field of characteristic \(p>0\) and \(A\) a symmetric \(k\)-algebra with bilinear form \((\;,\;):A\times A\to k\). Let \(KA\) be the commutator subspace of \(A\), so \(A/KA=HH_0(A)\). \textit{B.~Külshammer} has shown that there is a mapping \(\kappa_n:A/KA\to A/KA\) defined by the equation \((z^{p^n}, a)=(z,\kappa_n(a))^{p^n}\) for all \(z\in Z(A)\) and \(a\in A/KA\). As a first main result, the author proves that \(\kappa_n\) is invariant under derived equivalence. Then he defines a generalization of \(\kappa_n\) to higher Hochschild homology by using the graded commutative ring structure of \(HH^*(A,A)\) given by cup product; it turns out that this generalized map is derived invariant as well. In the final part of the paper it is shown that the Gerstenhaber construction of a Lie algebra structure on the Hochschild cohomology induces for all primes \(p\) a restricted Lie algebra structure on odd degree Hochschild homology, and for \(p=2\) on the entire Hochschild homology. This structure provides yet another fine invariant of derived categories.
