Let \(G\) be a finite abelian group and let \(\alpha\) be a skew-symmetric bicharacter on \(G\) with values in a field \(F\) of characteristic 0. If \(X=\cup_{g\in G} X_g\) is a disjoint union of countable infinite sets one defines the free \(G\)-commutative algebra \(E^\alpha\) on \(X\) as follows. It has a basis consisting of all monomials on \(X\) with nondecreasing indices, and the multiplication is twisted by using \(\alpha\). \textit{A. Berele} and \textit{A. Regev} in [Adv. Math. 64, 118--175 (1987; Zbl 0617.17002)] studied the relations between the action of the symmetric group and the general linear Lie superalgebra for the case when \(G\) is the group of order two, in the spirit of the Schur-Weyl duality. Later on \textit{A. Berele} in [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 309, No. 2, 581--589 (1988; Zbl 0706.16015)] developed the invariant theory related to that case. In the paper under review the author gives far-reaching generalisations by using skew-symmetric bicharacters for the twisting instead of the usual \(\pm\) sign int he case of superalgebras. Clearly one takes \(E^\alpha\) as the extension of the usual Grassmann (super-)algebra. The author provides further \(\alpha\)-twists of the \(n\times n\) matrices and of the general linear group, and studies the Invariant theory related to these objects. It turns out that such theory parallels the classical one and relates the invariants with the trace identities of these algebras.
