Let \(\mathbf{k}\) be a field of characteristic \(p\geq 0\). The authors study invariant theory for the general linear supergroup over \(\mathbf{k}\) when \(p>2\). That is, for \(p\not=2\) and for \(m,n\in\mathbb{N}\), they consider the corresponding super vector space \(V=V_{m|n}:=\mathbf{k}^{m|n}\). For each \(r\in\mathbb{Z}_{>0}\), there is an algebra morphism \(\Phi=\Phi^{(r)}_{m|n}\,:\, \mathbf{k} S_r\rightarrow \text{End}_{GL(m|n)}(V_{m|n}^{\otimes r})\). The First Fundamental Theorem of Invariant theory says that \(\Phi\) is typically surjective, which is known when \(p=0\) or \(n=0\). The Second Fundamental Theorem of Invariant theory describes the kernel of \(\Phi\); this answer is known in the case when \(p=0\) or \(n=0\), and does not depend on \(p\) when \(n=0\). In this paper, the authors determine when the symmetric group algebra acts faithfully on tensor superspace and demonstrate that the symmetric group does not always generate all invariants.
