Tikhonov's regularization method is applied to the numerical solution of inverse problems for two population models. For the first model the author solves an inverse problem that involves the simultaneous determination of the mortality rate and the initial distribution of individuals with given supplementary information on the population density. For the second model the author determines the growth rate of the individuals with given additional information about their density. Examples of numerical solutions are presented for both inverse problems. The population model is as follows \[ \begin{aligned} u_{t}+u_{x}&=-\mu u, \quad 0\leq x \leq 1, \;\;t\geq0, \\ u(0,t)&= \int^{1}_{0}q(s)u(s,t)\,ds, \quad t\geq0,\tag{1}\\ u(x,0)&=\phi(x), \quad 0\leq x \leq 1, \end{aligned} \] where \(u(x,t)\) is the density of individuals of size \(x\) at time \(t\), \(\mu(x)\) is the mortality rate of the individuals, \(\phi(x)\) is the initial density distribution of the individuals, and \(q(x)\) is the relative birth rate of the individuals.
