Two classes of quantum algebras are studied, and related to each other. One class is the Yangians of affine type, defined by an affine Cartan matrix; these are quantised enveloping algebras of current Lie algebras of semisimple Lie algebras. Consideration is limited to types \(A\) and \(\widehat{A}\), but in the second case also two-parameter versions are studied. The second class of quantum algebras studied here are the deformed double current algebras, DDCA, defined in this article; these are quantised enveloping algebras of universal central extensions of \(\mathfrak{sl}_n[u,v]\). The long term goal is to study the representation theory of these algebras, but in the present paper the focus is on their structure theory. With respect to the Yangians, the author has shown before [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2005, No. 57, 3551--3593 (2005; Zbl 1096.20006)] a Schur-Weyl duality between these algebras and rational Cherednik algebras. Here, he uses this to transfer the PBW basis of Cherednik algebras to Yangians. Then DDCA are shown also to be in Schur-Weyl duality with rational Cherednik algebras, and thus again the PBW basis can be transferred by the same method. Then the DDCA are identified with algebras the author defined before (loc.cit.) and certain specialisiations are shown to be deformations of \(U(\mathfrak{sl}_n(A_{\beta}))\), where \(A_{\beta}\) is the first Weyl algebra. Finally, DDCA are interpreted as a kind of limit form of affine Yangians, which explains their potential use in studying quantum toroidal algebras.
