Single particle states for electrons in zero dimensional confined semiconductors (quantum dots) are calculated. The focus is on a efficient computational method starting from three dimensional states of the bulk structure. A related eigenvalue problem is constructed and solved using a conjugate gradient method. Explicit algorithms are included and the CdSe semiconductor system is used as a specific example.
