    The authors consider the Cauchy problem for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations \[ \begin{aligned} &\frac{\partial v}{\partial t}-\frac{\mu}{\rho}\Delta v+(v\cdot\nabla)v-\frac{\mu+\mu'}{\rho}\nabla(\nabla\cdot v)+\frac{1}{\rho}\nabla p=f \quad \text{in}\quad\mathbb R^3\times(0,\infty),\\ &\frac{\partial \rho}{\partial t}+\nabla\cdot(\rho v)=g \quad \text{in}\quad\mathbb R^3\times(0,\infty),\\ &\frac{\partial \theta}{\partial t}+(v\cdot\nabla)\theta+\frac{\theta}{\rho c_1}\frac{\partial p}{\partial \theta}\nabla\cdot v=\frac{1}{\rho c_1}[k\Delta \theta+\Psi(v)+h] \quad \text{in}\quad\mathbb R^3\times(0,\infty),\\ &(\rho,v,\theta)| _{t=0}=(\rho_0,v_0,\theta_0)(x)\rightarrow (\widetilde\rho,0,\widetilde\theta), \quad \text{as}\quad | x| \rightarrow+\infty, \end{aligned}\tag{1} \] and the corresponding stationary problem \[ \begin{aligned} &-\frac{\mu}{\rho}\Delta v+(v\cdot\nabla)v-\frac{\mu+\mu'}{\rho}\nabla(\nabla\cdot v)+\frac{1}{\rho}\nabla p=f,\quad \nabla\cdot(\rho v)=g \quad \text{in}\quad\mathbb R^3,\\ &(v\cdot\nabla)\theta+\frac{\theta}{\rho c_1}\frac{\partial p}{\partial \theta}\nabla\cdot v=\frac{1}{\rho c_1}[k\Delta \theta+\Psi(v)+h] \quad \text{in}\quad\mathbb R^3. \end{aligned}\tag{2} \] Here \(v=(v_1,v_2,v_3)\) is the velocity, \(\rho\) the density, \(\theta\) the temperature, \(f,g,h\) are given functions, \(\mu, \mu',k\) constants, \(\Psi(v)\) is the dissipation function \[ \Psi(v)=\frac{\mu}{2}\sum_{i,j=1}^3\left(\frac{\partial v_i}{\partial x_j}+ \frac{\partial v_j}{\partial x_i}\right)^2+\mu'\sum_{j=1}^3\left(\frac{\partial v_j}{\partial x_j}\right)^2, \] \(c_1\) is the heat capacity at constant volume, \(p\) the pressure, \(c_1(\rho,\theta)\) and \(p(\rho,\theta)\) are smooth positive functions. It is proved that the stationary problem (2) has aunique solution \((\rho,v,\theta)\) for small data. On the base of this result the authors prove that the problem (1) has a unique stationary solution in a small neighborhood of \((\widetilde\rho,0,\widetilde\theta)\). This solution is stable with respect to small initial perturbation.
