The singularity category of a finite dimensional algebra has been defined (by \textit{D. Happel}, [Representation theory of finite groups and finite-dimensional algebras, Proc. Conf., Bielefeld/Ger. 1991, Prog. Math. 95, 389-404 (1991; Zbl 0759.16007)], in the case of Gorenstein algebras) as the quotient of the bounded derived category modulo the homotopy category of bounded complexes of finitely generated projective (or injective) modules. Thus, the singularity category of a self-injective algebra is its stable category by \textit{J. Rickard} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 61, No. 3, 303-317 (1989; Zbl 0685.16016)]; more generally Happel has shown for Gorenstein algebras that the singularity category is a stable category (of `Cohen-Macaulay modules'), [see loc. cit.]. Here, the authors generalize this concept by considering quotients of the bounded derived category modulo bounded complexes over \(\text{add}(T)\) for some self-orthogonal module \(T\). For Gorenstein algebras they prove a relative version of Happel's result; partial statements are obtained under weaker assumptions. They also give a description of the bounded derived category of a Gorenstein algebra inside the stable module category of the repetitive algebra.
