The isometry group of the Urysohn space as a Lévy group (Q886313)

The central result of the paper asserts that the isometry group of the universal Urysohn metric space equipped with its natural Polish topology admits an approximating chain of finite subgroups exhibiting the phenomenon of concentration of measure, and hence is a Lévy group in the sense of Gromov and Milman. This strengthens a result of Vershik that the isometry group has a dense locally finite subgroup. The paper recaps various related notions and results.
