In this paper the authors investigate finite dimensional non-semisimple Hopf actions on commutative domains over an algebraically closed field \(k\) of characteristic zero. These actions are assumed to be inner faithful in the sense that they do not factor through a smaller Hopf algebra. It is shown that if a finite dimensional Hopf algebra \(H\) acts on a commutative domain \(A\) inner faithfully, then this action extends to an inner faithful action of \(H\) on the quotient field of \(A\). They call a Hopf algebra \(H\) over \(k\) Galois-theoretical if it acts inner faithfully and \(k\)-linearly on a field extension of \(k\). The property of being Galois-theoretical is analysed in several examples of pointed Hopf algebras of finite Cartan type. Previous related work of the authors in the semisimple case is in the paper [Adv. Math. 251, 47-61 (2014; Zbl 1297.16029)].
