The author constructs entire functions which are, in a sense, ``close'' to the Riemann zeta function, but do not satisfy the Riemann hypothesis. Consider the functional equation \[ f(s)=2^{s} q^{1/2-s} \pi ^{s-1} \Gamma (1-s)\left(\sin \frac{\pi }{2} (s+k)\right)f(1-s), \] where \(q\) is a large prime number and \(k\) is either \(0\) or \(1\). Let \(s_{0} \) be an arbitrary complex number. Then in every neighborhood of \(s_{0} \) there is a number \(s_{1} \) such that there is an entire function \(f(s)\) with \(f(s_{1} )=0\) and \(f\) resembles the Riemann zeta function: it satisfies the above functional equation and has the form \[ f(s)=\sum _{n=2}^{\infty }\frac{c(n)}{n^{s} } \] for \(\mathrm{Re} (s)>1\) with coefficients \(c(n)\) and periodic with period \(q\).
