The questions of existence, uniqueness or non-uniqueness, and grow-up rate of nonnegative solutions to the semilinear Cauchy problem \[ \partial_{t}-\Delta u_{t} - \Delta u -V(x,t)u^{p}=0 \quad\text{for } x\in \mathbb{R}^n, t>0, \quad u(x,0)=u_{0}(x), \] are studied. The comparison principle is justified. The results obtained heavily rely on the behavior of the potential \(V\) and the quantity \(p\). In some cases, blow-up of solutions occurs. The problem is analyzed in the space of continuous functions which grow polynomially in the variable \(x\) as \(|x|\to \infty\).
