A group \(G\) is called a group of finite rank if there exists an integer \(r\) such that each finitely generated subgroup in \(G\) is generated by at most \(r\) elements. Let \(G\) be the free product of groups \(A\) and \(B\) of finite rank with amalgamated normal subgroup \(H\), \(H\neq A\), \(H\neq B\). It is proved that 1) if \(A\) and \(B\) are soluble then \(G\) is residually finite if and only if \(A\), \(B\), \(A/H\), \(B/H\) are reduced, 2) if \(A\) and \(B\) are almost soluble, \(\pi\) is a finite set of primes then \(G\) is almost residually finite \(\pi\)-group if and only if so are \(A\), \(B\), \(A/H\), \(B/H\).
