The first author defined in [Proc. A. Razmadze Math. Inst. 162, 25--35 (2013; Zbl 1291.55003)] the strong homology groups of a continuous map of compact metric spaces. The Čech and Steenrod homology theories are connected by the Milnor short exact sequence. In this article the authors show that strong homology groups and Čech homology groups of a continuous map are connected by the Milnor short exact sequence. Using this result the authors prove (theoretically and through examples) that there exists a continuous map with trivial Čech homology groups and non trivial strong homology groups. The appendix consists of various lemmas and theorems, with their respective proofs, first described in [loc. cit.].
