    Let X and Y be two nonempty sets and let f,g: \(X\times Y\to {\mathbb{R}}\). If (i) X is compact, (ii) f(x,y)\(\leq g(x,y)\) for all (x,y) in \(X\times Y,\) (iii) for all y in Y, f(\(\cdot,y)\) and g(\(\cdot,y)\) are upper semi- continuous on X, (iv) there exists s in (0,1) such that for all \(x_ 1,x_ 2\) in X, there is an element \(x_ 3\) in X with \(f(x_ 3,y)\geq s \max \{f(x_ 1,y),g(x_ 2,y)\}+(1-s)\min \{f(x_ 1,y),g(x_ 2,y)\}\) for all y in Y, (v) there exists t in (0,1) such that for all \(y_ 1\), \(y_ 2\) in Y, there is an element \(y_ 3\) in Y with \(g(x,y_ 3)\leq t \max \{f(x,y_ 1),g(x,y_ 2)\}+(1-t)\min \{f(x_ 1,y_ 1),g(x_ 1,y_ 2)\}\) for all x in X, then \(\inf_{Y}\sup_{X}f(x,y)\leq \sup_{X}\inf_{Y}g(x,y).\) This is a two functions version of the minimax theorem given by the authors [see ibid. 52, No.4, 367-370 (1989; Zbl 0687.49013)].
