The Leray-Schauder continuation theorem and ideas used earlier by the author [Nonlinear Anal. Theory Methods Appl. 8, 1271-1285 (1984; Zbl 0562.34030)] are used to prove an existence result for solutions of the boundary value problem \[ u''(x)+u(x)+g(x,u(x))=h(x),\quad u(0)=u(\pi)=0, \] where g satisfies Carathéodory's conditions.
