Let \(X,Y\) be \(C^{\ast}\)-algebras and \(f:X\to Y\) satisfying the Cauchy--Jensen functional equation \[ 2f\Bigl(\frac{x+y}{2}+z\Bigr)=f(x)+f(y)+2f(z) \qquad (x,y,z\in X). \] Based on Hyers' method, the author proves the Hyers--Ulam stability of this equation in unital \(C^{\ast}\)-algebras, Lie \(C^{\ast}\)-algebras and Jordan \(C^{\ast}\)-algebras. The results are applied to investigate isomorphisms on the structures mentioned. Consult also the papers ``On the stability of the linear transformation in Banach spaces'' by \textit{T. Aoki} [J. Math. Soc. Japan 2, 64--66 (1950; Zbl 0040.35501)] and ``A result of Tosio Aoki about a generalization of Hyers--Ulam stability of additive functions -- a question of priority'' by \textit{L. Maligranda} [Aequationes Math. 75, No. 3, 289--296 (2008; Zbl 1158.39019)] for interesting and important historical remarks.
