In this article the authors investigate a smooth stationary Gaussian field model for ocean waves and derive so-called Palm distributions for certain ocean wave characteristics, such as waveslope, wavevelocities, waveheight, wavelength et. These are distributions involving wave upcrossing intensities for a given sea level which can be calculated by Rice's formula. The authors treat two particularly interesting cases: the case of the spatial distribution of wave slopes and the case of waves encountering a moving ship. In the appendix additional computational issues are discussed.
