    The initial boundary value problem to the 1D Boussinesq equation is studied in the paper: \[ \begin{aligned} &\frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial t^2}-\frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial x^2}+ \frac{\partial^4 u}{\partial x^4}+\frac{\partial^2}{\partial x^2}(u^2)=0,\quad t>0,\quad x>0,\\ &u(0,t)=h_1(t),\quad \frac{\partial^2}{\partial x^2}\,u(0,t)=h_2(t),\\ &u(x,0)=f(x),\quad \frac{\partial}{\partial t}\,u(x,0)=\frac{\partial h(x)}{\partial x}. \end{aligned}\tag{1} \] It is proved that if \(f\in H^s(\mathbb R^+)\), \(h\in H^{s-1}(\mathbb R^+)\), \(h_1\in H^{s/2+1/4}(\mathbb R^+)\), \(h_2\in H^{s/2-3/4+\varepsilon}(\mathbb R^+)\) for \(s>\frac{1}{2}\) and \(\varepsilon>0\) small then the problem (1) has a unique solution \(u\in C([0,T_0];H^s(\mathbb R^+))\) where \(T_0\) depends only on the data of the problem. For \(h_1=h_2=0\) and sufficiently small \(f\) and \(h\) this solution can be extended globally in time.
