In \(L_2[0,+\infty),\) consider the operator \[ \ell y(x)\equiv -y''(x)-q(x)y(x), \] where \(q\) is a continuous map from \([0,\infty)\) into \(\mathbb{R},\) and the boundary condition \[ y(0)\cos\alpha +y'(0)\sin\alpha=0. \] Let \(\rho_{\alpha}(\lambda)\) be the spectral function associated to the equation \(\ell y=\lambda y\), \(\lambda\in\mathbb{R}.\) It is well known that this function is non-decreasing and bounded below on \(\mathbb{R},\) and there are an abundant literature concerning the asymptotics of the spectral measure of \(\ell,\) namely \(\rho'_{\alpha}(\lambda)\) as \(\lambda\) tends to \(+\infty,\) depending on the choice of \(q(x).\) In the paper under review, the authors have found the following asymptotics \[ \rho'_{\alpha}(\lambda)=\frac{\sqrt{\lambda}} {\pi\big(\lambda \sin^2\alpha +\cos^2\alpha+S(\alpha,\lambda)+o(1/\lambda) \big)} \] in the case when the continuous map \(q\) verifies \(q(0)=0, q(x)\rightarrow +\infty\) as \(x\rightarrow +\infty,\) and the following conditions hold: {\parindent=13mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] \(\int_{0}^{+\infty}q(x)^{-1/2}\,dx=+\infty\); \item[(2)] \(q\) is of class \(C^3(0,+\infty),\) \(q''\) has a constant sign for large \(x,\) and \(q'''\) is of bounded variation on \([1,+\infty)\); \item[(3)--(4)] \(q\) and its derivatives \(q^{(j)}, j=1,2,3,\) satisfy the estimates \(q(x)=O(x^{2+\delta}),\) \(q^{(j)}(x)=O(q(x)x^{\delta-j})\) for all \(\delta>0\) as \(x\rightarrow +\infty\), and \(q^{(j)}=o(x^{-j})\) if \(x\) tends to zero. \end{itemize}} The expression of \(S(\alpha,\lambda)\) is too much involved to be described in this brief note. Moreover, the authors present some corollaries of the above result in which new expansions of \(\rho'_{\alpha}(\lambda)\) are obtained by assuming additional conditions on the potential \(q(x)\).
