Let \(X\) be a compact Riemann surface of genus \(g\geq 3\) and \(J(X)\) its Jacobian variety. Through Abel-Jacobi map \(X\) is embedded in \(J(X)\). Let \(X^-\) denote the image of \(X\) under the multiplication map by \(-1\). When \(X\) is generic, \textit{G. Ceresa} [Ann. Math. (2) 117, 285--291 (1983; Zbl 0538.14024)] showed the validity of the property that (*) the cycle \(X-X^-\) in \(J(X)\) is not algebraically equivalent to zero. On the other hand, \textit{B. Harris} [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 80, 1157--1158 (1983; Zbl 0523.14006)] considered the Fermat quartic \(F(4)\) and proved that (*) holds for \(X=F(4)\), employing the theory of the harmonic volumes introduced in his paper [Acta Math. 150, 91--123 (1983; Zbl 0527.30032)]. In the present paper the author shows that (*) holds for the Klein quartic by a method similar to Harris.
