The authors consider the singular perturbed convection-diffusion boundary vaue problem (BVP) \[ -\varepsilon u''(x)+bu'(x)=f(x),\quad 0<x<1,\quad u(0)=u_0,\quad u(1)=u_1, \] where \(\varepsilon\) is a small positive parameter, \(b>0\) is a constant. The solution of this problem can have the boundary layer at \(x=1\). This problem is reformulated as a BVP for a system of two first order equations with unknowns \(u(x)\) and \(q=u'\). The discontinuous Galerkin method (DGM) is based on the partitioning of the segment \([0,\;1]\) into intervals \(I_j=[x_{j-1/2}\), \(x_{j+1/2}]\) for \(j=1,\dots,N\) with centers \(x_j=(x_{j-1/2}+x_{j+1/2})/2\), and on the transition to a weak formulation of the problem with test functions \(v\) and \(w\) corresponding to the first and second equations, respectively. An approximate solution is being searched in a class of piecewise polynomials of degree \(p\geq 1\) in each cell \(I_j\). The used test functions \(v\) and \(w\) are of the same class. In view of possible discontinuities of the sought solution \(\{u(x),\; q(x)\}\) at the nodes \(x_{j+1/2}\) it is necessary to define corresponding ``numerical traces'' \(\hat{U}_{j+1/2}\) and \(\hat{Q}_{j+1/2}\). The authors propose a new parameterized variant of such a definition. The existence and uniqueness of the solution of the new version of the DGM are proven. A numerical example demonstrates the \(2p+1\)-order superconvergence at some ``Radau points''.
