      A single-valued map \(f: X \to Y\) is called a selection of a multivalued mapping \(F: X \to Y\) provided \(f(x) \in F(x)\) for each \(x \in X\). A multivalued map \(F: X \to Y\) from a space \(X\) into a space \(Y\) with non-empty values is called lower semicontinuous if \(\{ x \in X \mid F(x) \cap V \neq \emptyset\}\) is open in \(X\) for every open subset \(V\) of \(Y\). In the paper under review, the author proves the following theorem: Let \(X\) be a compact Hausdorff space. Suppose that any lower semicontinuous map \(F: X \to Y\) where \(Y\) is a \(G_\delta\) subset of a Banach space, such that the values of \(F\) are convex and closed in \(Y\), has a continuous selection. Then \(X\) is weakly infinite-dimensional. This provides a partial solution of the \(G_\delta\)-problem posed by \textit{E. Michael} in [\textit{J. van Mill} and \textit{G. M. Reed}, Open problems in topology. Amsterdam etc.: North-Holland. (1990; Zbl 0718.54001), pp.\ 271--278] and of a conjecture posed by \textit{D. Repovš} and \textit{P. V. Semenov} [Topology Appl. 154, No.~10, 2185--2195 (2007; Zbl 1121.54037)].
