There are two approaches to moduli spaces of representations of quivers: via a suitable concept of (semi-)stable representations [\textit{A. D. King}, Q. J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 45, No. 180, 515--530 (1994; Zbl 0837.16005)], and that of framed quiver moduli, preliminar to the construction of the Nakajima quiver varieties [\textit{H. Nakajima}, Representation theory of algebras and related topics. Proceedings of the workshop, Mexico City, Mexico, August 16-20, 1994. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society. CMS Conf. Proc. 19, 139--157 (1996; Zbl 0870.16008)]. In the present paper, the geometry of the framed quiver moduli attached to a quiver without oriented cycles is investigated. This study is based on two realizations, one in terms of the ordinary quiver moduli as in [King, loc. cit.] and the other in terms of Grassmannians of subrepresentations. A description of framed quiver moduli as iterated Grassmann bundles is derived; it allows to give detailed information on the corresponding Chow ring in terms of Schubert calculus. Applications to quantum group constructions in the line of [\textit{A. A. Bejlinson, G. Lusztig, R. MacPherson}, Duke Math. J. 61, No. 2, 655--677 (1990; Zbl 0713.17012)] are given; it is shown that some quotients of modified Borel parts of suitable quantum groups can be realized from a convolution algebra defined from framed quiver moduli.
