A matrix \(A\in M_n(\mathbb{C})\) is said to be conjugate-normal if \(AA^*=\overline{A^*A}\). The conjugate-normal matrix was first introduced by \textit{M. Vujicic}, \textit{F. Herbut} and \textit{G. Vujicic} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 23, 225--238 (1972; Zbl 0242.15003)], and plays the same important role in the theory of unitary congruence as the conventional normal matrix does with respect to unitary similarities. In this paper, the authors give a survey of the properties of such a kind of matrices. In particular, a list of more than forty conditions is presented, each of which is equivalent to \(A\) being conjugate-normal.
