Let \(M\) be a compact orientable hyperbolic 3-manifold with boundary and a metric \(\sigma\) (with constant curvature -1). Let \(\partial M\) contain a surface with genus greater than 1. The core \(N(\sigma)\) is the smallest non-empty closed subset of the interior of \(M\) which is locally convex and homotopically equivalent to \(M\). Its boundary \(\partial N(\sigma)\) is isometric to a hyperbolic surface of finite volume and can be embedded in a natural way into \(\partial M\). This surface is bent along a geodesic lamination and the amount of bendings is described by the bending measured geodesic lamination of \(\sigma\). The bending map \(b\) assigns to a complete hyperbolic metric its bending measured geodesic lamination. Let \({\mathcal{QD}}(\sigma)\) be the space of quasi-isometric deformations of a given metric. A complete hyperbolic metric \(\sigma\) on \(\text{int}(M)\) is convex cocompact if \(N(\sigma)\) is compact. If \(\sigma\) is convex cocompact, then \({\mathcal{QD}}(\sigma)\) is the set of convex cocompact metrics on \(\text{int}(M)\). In this case, the bending map \(b:{\mathcal{QD}}(\sigma)\rightarrow{\mathcal{ML}}(\partial M)\) is continuous. A complete hyperbolic metric \(\sigma\) on \(\text{int}(M)\) is geometrically finite if \(N(\sigma)\) has finite volume. In this case, \({\mathcal{QD}}(\sigma)\) is the set of geometrically finite metrics having the same parabolic subgroups as \(\sigma\). In the paper, the author studies the continuity of the bending map on the whole set of geometrically finite metrics. Let \({\mathcal{GF}}(M)\) be the set of isotopy classes of geometrically finite hyperbolic metrics which are not fuchsian. The topology can be introduced on it such that for a metric \(\sigma\in{\mathcal{GF}}(M)\), \({\mathcal{QD}}(M)\) can be viewed as a subset of \({\mathcal{GF}}(M)\). The bending map \(b_{\mathcal{GF}}(M):{\mathcal{GF}}(M)\rightarrow{\mathcal{ML}}(\partial M)\) maps an isotopy class of geometrically finite metrics to its bending measured geodesic lamination. \(b_{\mathcal{GF}}\) is not continuous on any neighbourhood of a metric with some rank one cusps. To overcome this, a quotient space of \({\mathcal{ML}}(\partial M)\) can be introduced. The main result of the paper is that the map \(b_{\mathcal{R}}\) from \({\mathcal{GF}}(M)\) to \({\mathcal{ML}}(\partial M)/{\mathcal{R}}\) is continuous.
