The paper deals with parabolic bundles \(E\) on a smooth variety \(X\) with parabolic structure on a (smooth) strict normal crossing divisor \(D= \sum D_i\). The parabolic structure is assumed to be locally abelian i.e., locally a direct sum of line bundles. By considering the parabolic structure as a filtration of sheaves (subsheaves of \(E\)) on \(X\), \textit{J. N. Iyer} and \textit{C. T. Simpson} computed the (parabolic) Chern character of such a parabolic bundle in terms of these sheaves [Geometry and dynamics of groups and spaces. In memory of Alexander Reznikov. Partly based on the international conference on geometry and dynamics of groups and spaces in memory of Alexander Reznikov, Bonn, Germany, September 22--29, 2006. Basel: Birkhäuser. Progress in Mathematics 265, 439--485 (2008; Zbl 1152.14008)]. The author considers the parabolic structure as a filtration on the restriction of \(E\) to \(D\) and converts the formula of Simpson and Iyer into a formula for parabolic Chern character in terms of Chern classes of the underlying vector bundle \(E\), the classes of \(D_i\) in the rational Chow groups of \(X\), Chern characters of the associated graded pieces of the parabolic filtration along multiple intersections of \(D_i\) and the parabolic weights. He also gives explicit formulas for the first three parabolic Chern characters and shows that the first one agrees with that given by Borne and the second agrees with that given by Mochizuki.
