Quasi-interpolation is a standard tool in approximation theory, mainly as a useful alternative to the interpolation operator. No equations have to be solved when the quasi-interpolation operator acts on the approximands, but polynomial recovery is required for (usually low-order) polynomials. In this paper, quasi-interpolants from multivariate spline spaces are constructed by minimizing the uniform error of the quasi-interpolant to monomials of the smallest degree which are not recovered by the operator.
