The authors consider the existence of a bounded, positive solution to the following boundary value problem on the positive half-line: \[ x''(t)-k^2x(t)+\varphi(t)f(t,x(t),x'(t))=0,\;t>0,\quad x(0)=0,\;\lim_{t\to+ \infty}x(t)=0, \] where \(\varphi\in C((0,+\infty),(0,+\infty))\) and \(f: \mathbb{R}^+\times(0,+\infty_\times\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\) is a continuous function which may be singular at \(x=0\), and \(k\) is a real positive constant. By using the upper and lower solutions method in which the regularization technique combined with a sequential argument is used to overcome the singularity, they prove the existence of positive solutions under a sign condition assumption. In addition, the fixed point index on cones in a suitable weighted Banach space is employed and the existence of a positive solution is obtained; the singularity in the positive nonlinearity is treated by approximating a fixed point operator.
