The long term behavior of some finite difference approximations of the generalized Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (GKS) equation in two space dimensions and periodic boundary conditions is theoretically studied. Unique solvability of the finite difference approximation and a global attractor of the corresponding discrete dynamical system are established. Finally, a long-time stability and convergence of the finite difference scheme are obtained. The paper looks quite technical, but the necessary estimates follow quite naturally due to the periodic boundary conditions.
