The authors obtain local a priori estimates and related nonexistence theorems for weak solutions of a wide class of quasilinear elliptic inequalities for not necessarily power nonlinearities in a framework which includes as special cases sub-elliptic structures and Carnot groups. Also, they study quasilinear elliptic inequalities associated to differential operators which satisfy some special hypotheses and without assuming the nonlinearities and the solutions have a prescribed sign. Finally, they present some well known facts in Carnot and Heisenberg groups and some examples of operators for which, their results for differential inequalities can be applied.
