Asymptotics of eigenvalues of non-self-adjoint Schrödinger operators on a half-line (Q977085)

An asymptotic formula of Bohr-Sommerfeld type for the eigenvalues \(E_{n}\) of the non-self-adjoint problem \[ -y''+V(x)y=Ey \] on the half-line \([0,\infty)\) with Robin boundary conditions \[ y(0) \cos{\theta} + y'(0) \sin {\theta} = 0 \] and \(V\) a monic polynomial of degree at least 3 is obtained. The formula is a relation between the index \(n\) of the eigenvalue \(E_{n}\), the value of \(\theta\) and a finite series of fractional powers of \(E_{n}\). The coefficients of the series are explicitely computed. Due to the fact that no integrals appear in this formula (the classical Titchmarsh formula [\textit{E. C. Titchmarsh}, Q. J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 5, 228--240 (1954; Zbl 0056.08305)] contains an integral), Shin's formula can easily be inverted and the potential and the boundary condition can be recovered from the first \(m+1\) coefficients. The proof is based on a refinement of an asymptotic formula, obtained by Sibuya in section 19 of his book [\textit{Y. Sibuya}, Global Theory of a Second Order Linear Ordinary Differential Equation with a Polynomial Coefficient. North-Holland Mathematics Studies. 18.
