A Banach space is said to have the \textit{Grothendieck property} if every weak-star convergent sequence in its dual is actually weakly convergent. It is well-known that \(\ell_\infty\) is a Grothendieck space. More generally, \({\mathcal C} (K)\) is a Grothendieck space when \(K\) is a compact Stonian space [\textit{A.\,Grothendieck}, ``Sur les applications linéaires faiblement compactes d'espaces du type \(C(K)\),'' Can.\ J.\ Math.\ 5, 129--173 (1953; Zbl 0050.10902)]. For characterizations of \({\mathcal C} (K)\) spaces which are Grothendieck spaces, see [\textit{D.\,Bárcenas} and \textit{L.\,G.\thinspace Mármol}, ``On \(C(K)\) Grothendieck spaces,'' Rend.\ Circ.\ Mat.\ Palermo (2) 54, No.\,2, 209--216 (2005; Zbl 1116.46014)]. Not many spaces are known to be Grothendieck spaces. Among them, one may quote \(H^\infty\) [\textit{J.\,Bourgain}, ``\(H^{\infty}\) is a Grothendieck space,'' Stud.\ Math.\ 75, 193--216 (1983; Zbl 0533.46035)] and all its even duals [\textit{M.\,D.\thinspace Contreras} and \textit{S.\,Díaz}, ``Some Banach space properties of the duals of the disk algebra and \(H^\infty\)'', Mich.\ Math.\ J.\ 46, No.\,1, 123--141 (1999; Zbl 0979.46037)]. Another class of examples are the Orlicz spaces \(L^\Psi (\mu)\) (when the dual is weakly sequentially complete) and all their even duals [\textit{D.\,H.\thinspace Leung}, ``Weak convergence in higher duals of Orlicz spaces'', Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 103, No.\,3, 797--800 (1988; Zbl 0663.46020)]; see also [\textit{P.\,Lefèvre}, \textit{D.\,Li}, \textit{H.\,Queffélec} and \textit{L.\,Rodríguez-Piazza}, ``Weak compactness and Orlicz spaces'', Colloq.\ Math.\ 112, No.\,1, 23--32 (2008; Zbl 1149.46011)] for an elementary proof (of a weaker result). It is also known that every von Neumann algebra is a Grothendieck space [\textit{H.\,Pfitzner}, ``Weak compactness in the dual of a \(C^ \ast\)-algebra is determined commutatively'', Math.\ Ann.\ 298, No.\,2, 349--371 (1994; Zbl 0791.46035)]. In the paper under review, the author proves that weak \(L^p\) spaces \(L^{p, \infty} (\mu)\) (with \(\mu\) nontrivial) are Grothendieck spaces for \(1 < p <\infty\). He proves actually a more general result on Banach lattices.
