The paper is concerned with the study of Fourier integral operators \[ Fu(x)= \int e^{2\pi i\lambda(x,\eta)}\sigma(x,\eta)\widehat u(\eta)\,d\eta, \] where the phase function \(\lambda(x,\eta)\) satisfies the estimates \[ |\partial^\alpha_{x,\eta}\lambda(x, \eta)|\leq c_\alpha\quad\text{for }|\alpha|\geq 2. \] Basic examples arise when solving Schrödinger type equations, \(\lambda(x,\eta)\) being in particular a quadratic form in the variables \(x\), \(\eta\). The authors, improving preceding results of \textit{E. Cordero}, \textit{F. Nicola} and \textit{L. Rodino} [Commun. Pure Appl. Anal. 9, No. 1, 1--21 (2010; Zbl 1196.42027) and Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 26, No. 3, 357--370 (2009; Zbl 1171.35133)], give here a very precise study of the boundedness of \(F\) on the modulation spaces \(M^{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^n)\), \(1\leq p\), \(q\leq\infty\), under suitable additional assumptions on \(\lambda(x,\eta)\). The symbol \(\sigma(x,\eta)\) is assumed to belong to the Sjöstrand class \(M^{\infty,1}(\mathbb{R}^{2n})\).
