The authors study fractals defined as limit sets of iterated function systems (sets of contractions \(\sigma_i:[0,1]\to [0,1]\), \(i=0,\dots,p-1\)) and orthonormal wavelets constructed in the \(L^2\)-space with respect to the related measure of maximal entropy first defined on \([0,1]\) and then enlarged to \(\mathbb R\). In addition the existence of a Fourier basis (of the form \(e_\lambda =e^{i 2\pi \lambda}\), \(\lambda \in \Lambda\)) is studied as well as generalized Fourier bases, that is, orthonormal sets of the form \(\{e_\lambda\circ \phi:\lambda\in \Lambda\}\) where \(\phi:\mathbb R \to \mathbb R\) is a homeomorphism. As examples various Cantor sets (including the the \(1/3\)-Cantor set) are considered.
