Using a generalization of \textit{J. Roe}'s index theorem for partitioned manifolds [Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 135, 187--228 (1988; Zbl 0677.58042)] to Dirac operators twisted by \(C^*\)-vector bundles and methods of \textit{B. Hanke} and \textit{T. Schick} [J. Differ. Geom. 74, No. 2, 293--320 (2006; Zbl 1122.58011)], the author proves the following: Let \(M\) be a complete Riemannian spin manifold partitioned by a closed area-enlargeable hypersurface \(N\) and assume that there is a smooth map \(\phi:M \to N\) such that \(\phi|_N\) is of non-zero degree. Then the metric on \(M\) does not have uniform positive scalar curvature.
