Let \(X\) be a sequentially complete locally convex space over \(\mathbb{K}\) and \(V\) a bounded subset of \(X\). Let \((a_n)\) be a sequence in \(\mathbb{K}\setminus\{0\}\) such that \(\liminf_{n\to\infty}|a_n|>1\) and let \((b_n)\) be a sequence in \(X\). It is proved in one of the main results of the paper that for every sequence \((x_n)\) in \(X\) satisfying \[ x_{n+1}-a_nx_n-b_n\in V,\quad n\in\mathbb{N} \] there exists a unique sequence \((y_n)\) in \(X\) satisfying the first-order linear recurrence \[ y_{n+1}=a_ny_n+b_n,\quad n\in\mathbb{N} \] such that \[ x_n-y_n\in\tilde{V},\quad n\geq n_0. \] The set \(\tilde{V}\) is a closure of the balanced hull of \(V\) multiplied by a constant and \(n_0\) is a natural number. Analogous result is proved under the assumption \(\limsup_{n\to\infty}|a_n|<1\). In this case \(\tilde{V}\) is a convex and balanced hull of \(V\) multiplied by a constant and there is no uniqueness of \((y_n)\). Other results concern the stability of the linear recurrence with constant coefficients: \[ x_{n+1}=ax_n+b_n,\quad n\in\mathbb{N}. \]
