This paper is concerned with the analysis of a fully-implicit numerical scheme for the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation \(u_t+u_{xxx}+u^4 u_x=0\) in a bounded spatial domain \((0,L)\), \(L>0\), under the effect of a localized damping term. The numerical scheme proposed in this paper relies on an unconditional stable finite difference method that preserves stability properties from the continuous model. In addition, it is shown that for small initial data the energy associated with the numerical scheme decays exponentially uniformly with respect to the mesh size. Various numerical experiments are performed to support the theoretical findings.
