This paper deals with a strong and weak formulations of the Stefan problem and the Mullins-Sekerke problem. A coupled finite element approximation for the interface evolution and the diffusion equation is introduced. Solution methods for the discrete equations and mesh adaptation strategies are discussed. Several numerical experiments including simulations of snow crystal formations are presented.
